Yorkshire Water has announced plans to move to central location in Leeds after it signed off the agreement finalising the deal recently. The move will take place shortly with employees taking their places by next year.

The water company will soon be shifting about 500 of its contract partner employees and regular staff to prime office spaces in this location. It is believed that with this move the workplace synergies will be enhanced leading to better production flow as the employees will be housed in one building and will be able to build better work place relationships. The relocated employees are expected to function out of this new shared office space from early 2010 onwards.

Leeds has always been an area of special attention for Yorkshire Water and with this relocation to the business centre of Leeds, the company has reiterated its interest and commitment to this area. The head of department at Yorkshire Water, Charlie Haysom has pointed out that the company is giving back to the community which it services by taking up tenancy here.

This move is believed to be the largest tenancy in Leeds. About 55,000 square feet of area will be occupied by the company after the relocation in the prime business block Livingstone House in the Clarence Dock location.

After the move, the company hopes to be able to channelize its attention to its investment programmes and undertake projects for improvement of existing systems and infrastructure in its field of expertise. The move is also believed to be a result of improved confidence owing to the assurance by Ofwat, the water regulator that a huge investment is possible over the next five years in such improvement projects. According to the Ofwat assurance, about £2b may be invested here in near future.
