Fantasy Football – England Are World Cup Champions
Football Superstars held a virtual World Cup of their massive multi-player online game recently, and although the England team failed to beat Germany in the 2010 South Africa World Cup, they managed to go all the way in the virtual world.
England are the World Cup winners for the virtual Football Superstars epic event; this is an MMO (massively multi-player online game) that recreates the World Cup, but as a computer game. Unlike the real England team that lost to Germany in South Africa, the virtual England team ended up victorious. The virtual England team went up against regular rivals the Germans in the group stages, performing much better in the virtual world they managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw. The German team then started to lose 2-1 to the Ukraine, knocking them surprisingly out of the fantasy football world cup in the group stages, something that would be hard to believe in the real world. England had an easy route through to the Semi Finals, as they absolutely annihilated Lithuania 9-1 in the Quarters, completely outclassing the team. The Semi Finals saw them play Portugal, a team they carry a past with. The game started with England going on the offence straight away, forging a number of chances throughout the game – in the end the midfield battle was won by the England team and they managed to finish the game with a nice 4-2 win. They then advanced to play the Russian team in the World Cup Final, a dangerous team that absolutely wanted to win this tournament. Terribly for the Russians, however, the game got off to a disastrous kickoff for them as England scored within the first minute. However, the Russians fought back immediately and forced the English into a difficult game. Russia equalized thanks to an impressive goal kick and smart forward passing headers forcing the English keeper out of his box for a clearance, which was intercepted and smartly put in the back of the net while the keeper was still off his line, the final was hotting up to be a good game. England pulled ahead again thanks to a similar goal, the flood gates were opened and England could now not be stopped, more goals followed. Russia did their best and tried to counter attack but it seemed as though they had given it all they had, the Russian squad was just unable to answer the English in kind. In the end, after an involved game, the final whistle blew, and for the first time, England were the World Cup Winners for the Football Superstars MMO fantasy football games. According to the CyberSports Community Manager Andrew Ruddick, the event was a huge success – it was the largest event so far hosted in Football Superstars, and the teams were well organized and incredibly dedicated to the event, the games were great to watch with some surprise results. He continued to thank every single team and person involved in the great event, and gave a very heartfelt congratulation to the winning English team who played well throughout. There might be additional tournaments put on later on this year.
