Every Kitchen Requires a Salt and Pepper Mill

1: Keep a minimal amount of pepper inside your pepper grinder. Don’t completely fill your pepper mill if you don’t regularly use pepper. You may not be aware that pepper can actually go stale before its used. Old, loss it taste pepper just won’t taste as fresh if it’s been housed inside a mill for months at a time. Keep peppercorns in a sealed container, in a dark and cool area. Tip 2 : Don’t clean your mills with water. Salt and pepper grinders, especially wooden ones, should never be cleaned with water. A squirt of window cleanser and a small brush can be utilized to clean the surface of the mill. And absolutely keep your grinders out of the dishwasher! Tip 3 : Make sure that you use a salt mill for salt, and vice versa. It is not recommended to utilize pepper mills for grinding salt. Specialty salt grinders are specifically fashioned for use with Sea salt. Tip 4 – Be sure to only use dry salt. Only store dry salt inside the salt grinder. The grinder will become plugged if you add damp salt. Tip #5: Adjust for different grinds. Proper salt and pepper grinders have a mechanism to adjust for the size of your grind. By turning the screw (located on top of your mill), you can adjust the grind accordingly. You can always adjust to a coarser grind, but if you want finer salt or pepper, you will have to empty the mill first. 6. Watch the pepper’s coloring. pepper which are white and black are normally small, and will grind easily. However, green and pink ones are a bit bigger. If you don’t pay attention, these may clog the grinder. Never try to grind pink or green pepper alone. Mix green and pink peppercorns with the usual whit and black kind. Tip 7 : Buy your mills together. Many companies will package salt and pepper mills as a set. Most people like their salt and pepper grinders to match! It’s also possible to buy a pepper mill which has a shaker for salt on the top, if you’re not someone who grinds salt. By keeping both spices in the same place, it’s a convenient and kitchen-friendly design. One of my favorite mills is a bamboo and acrylic pepper mill I like the fact that bamboo is a sustainable wood.
