We all know that eyeglasses have been used to meliorate people’s eyesights since the 1400s, but nothing dramatic really happened to the world of sight enhancement, until the mid 1950’s when Contacts were discovered.

For those of us who work in a dusty work environment or have dry eyes or Sjoren’s syndrom, you may not be able to consider wearing Contact lenses or spectacles. The Ortho K system – Contacts that correct shortsightedness while you sleep – might be worth studying. What happens is that you wear the special gas permeable Contacts at night and it somehow reshapes the clear covering of your eye (cornea) to correct your visual imperfectness and give you perfect vision when you arise from your sleep. The sight rectification generally lasts for the entire day, and sometimes longer: some wearers find they may only need to wear the lenses every other night. Swimmers, rejoice: you can wear them in the pool, too. Clearly, this isn’t a cure, but it is safe, quick and easily reversible. It may also slow down the progression of your nearsightedness. The technology has been around since the 1960s, but has only recently become affordable.
