Absolutely… Not

There are not absolutes in No-Limit online poker. Despite all the tips from the poker pros and real-life experiences, poker will always defy conventional wisdom about the best way to play the game.

Some pundits espouse aggressive play as a way to win. It does work much of the time. Other times, aggressive play will quickly decimate your chip stack when you get trapped by a player with a better hand.

Other poker pros advocate for sticking to a tight rock style of play. The rock patiently waits for strong starting hands and only bets with premium cards. The only problem with that style of play is sometimes the big cards never come, and when they do, no on takes the bait, leaving the rock to win a meager pot.

There are books, web sites and videos all dedicated to teaching players how to win at poker. Many rely on systems like counting outs and calculating pot odds. Yet, it never fails that some player at a table makes the long shot bet based on “gut feeling” and puts a bad beat on the math genius.

Some professionals swear their game is based on picking up psychological tells from their opponents. But, poker being a mind game above all other things, your opponent knows you know how to read tells, so the player intentionally gives off confusing signals.

Probably the only one piece of poker wisdom that holds true is that the more unpredictable you make your play, the more likely you are to win pots. No one style and no one technique can work all the time in poker.
